What is the best Bible app for men?

The best Bible app for men is the one that matches why you keep stopping: if you need structure, pick a short fixed plan like FORGED; if you need everything free, pick YouVersion. We make FORGED, so weigh our view with that in mind. Everything we say about the other four comes from their own App Store listings and websites, read on November 4, 2026.

Most men do not lack a Bible app. They have two or three on the phone already. What they lack is a reason the app gets opened on a Thursday in week three. So we compared these five on the things that decide that: what it costs, whether ads interrupt you, how long a day takes, and how much structure you get without building it yourself.

Who FORGED is not for

Pick something else if any of these is you. A plan with a game layer is the wrong tool for some men, and that is fine.

Bible apps for men: common questions

What is the best free Bible app for men?

If free means free forever with no ads, the YouVersion Bible App is the strongest choice: its site says it has no advertising and no in-app purchases. Man of God is also free and does one thing, a daily verse. FORGED is free to download with Day 1, Bible Basics and the Bible Words glossary free; Days 2 to 90 are Premium.

Is there a Bible app made only for men?

Several. FORGED, He Reads Truth, Daily Bread Devotional for Men and Man of God are all written for men. YouVersion is for everyone but carries many men's reading plans.

Which Bible app helps with discipline, not just reading?

Look for structure you can see: a fixed daily length, a clear next step and a record that survives a missed day. FORGED is built around that (a 90-day plan, about ten minutes a day, missed days never erase progress). YouVersion plans have streaks and reminders too.

Do I need to pay for a men's devotional app?

No. You can build a solid habit on free tools. Pay only if a specific paid feature keeps you showing up; most of these apps let you try before paying.

Which Bible translation does FORGED use?

The World English Bible, quoted word for word and labeled, with FORGED's own commentary shown separately. If you want the NIV, ESV or KJV, YouVersion or He Reads Truth will suit you better.

Can I use FORGED and YouVersion together?

Yes, and plenty of men would be well served by that: FORGED for the ten-minute daily routine, YouVersion for reading whole books and for audio.

Honest limits of every app here

No app on this list will read the Bible for you. Each one trades something away.

  1. FORGED asks for money after Day 1 if you want the full 90 days (monthly, annual with a 14-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or one-time lifetime). Its store screenshot shows $69.99 a year, $10.99 a month or $149.99 lifetime; your local price may differ.
  2. YouVersion gives you so many plans that choosing becomes its own chore. Structure is up to you.
  3. He Reads Truth sells plans one at a time, and its App Store page lists version 3.56 from August 2024 as the latest.
  4. Daily Bread Devotional for Men carries a "Contains Advertising" label; removing ads is a $4.99 purchase.
  5. Man of God is a verse and nothing more: no context, no plan, no prayer prompt.

One design decision we made: FORGED's knight, stones and badges help many men show up, but they can be hidden from Home in Settings. The plan works without the game layer.

A scenario: the fourth Bible app

Picture a man with four Bible apps in a folder called Faith. He started each one on a Monday. Each lasted until a work trip or a sick kid broke the chain, and then the red badge on the icon started to feel like an accusation.

What changes the pattern is rarely a better translation. It is a smaller target and a record that survives a bad week. For him, a ten-minute day with one passage, one challenge and five minutes of silence is small enough to restart on a Thursday. If he wanted free and flexible instead, YouVersion would be the honest call.

"Exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now and of that which is to come."

1 Timothy 4:7-8 (World English Bible)
